A Century of Automotive Innovation
The History of Nissan
The Nissan brand can be traced back 100 years to its beginnings in Japan. Nissan’s colorful heritage began in 1911, when Kwaishinsha Motor Car Works opened in Tokyo. Three years later it completed its first car and named it “DAT.” It packed a whopping 10 horsepower!
DAT’s name, though short, brought plenty of meaning. It came from the initials of the three men who invested in the car company: Den, Aoyama, and Takeuchi. It was not only an acronym and tribute to the men, but it also meant “fast rabbit” in Japanese.
